Time has always been against us and feeling like it is moving faster than ever, can produce that feeling that you haven’t accomplished anything today. With the endless demands and commitment on our time: work, family…and less tangible things like watching a movie or relaxing with friends. Taking control of our time is very important.

We subconsciously waste time throughout the day from mindlessly scrolling on social media at the beginning of the day to sitting down to watch tv. This accumulation of wasted time could potentially add up to months or years in addition to spending 6–8 hours of sleep each day making Time an essential commodity. It can feel difficult to get out of this continuous cycle of wasting time.

The Default State

How many times are we in situations where we have pockets of time throughout the day not deciding to do anything productive as it is not worth it and end up going on social media for 5–10 minutes and as we always do. Mindlessly picking up the phone to scroll on social media is an addictive habit. However, you should put yourself in a default state where you are in a situation where you have a small pocket of time to be in a “default”. This is the state where you have 20 minutes before you go to lunch outside and you think to yourself what should I do with that time. You should have a default state where you know what you are going to do at that time

An example is reading a book. Whenever a slot of free time comes around and there is nothing to do, then being in the habit of grabbing the phone and start reading on Kindle. This would build a routine in your life and something beneficial.

Being in an actively conscious Mindset

Having a particular mindset can be important for personal growth, motivation and pushing yourself to your limits. Imagine you had a camera crew recording everything you do every meal you eat, the choices you pick, every action and what you occupy yourself with. I think that many people would respond differently

Structure in the day

Without any planning or preparation for the next day the tasks and activities required and how to utilize them can usually lead to time wasting. As you are trying to either figure out what to do with your life can usually result in procrastination through resorting to social media.

Giving our self enough time for that reflection and evaluation of what to do with our time and playing the events before the next day. Can provide organization to your day where you are not stuck heedlessly lost without any direction and trying to find something to do.
