Writing requires thinking for thoughts to be organized and structured.
Writing is a form of communication, that is widely used to deliver information whether that is in academia for writing an essay or in a casual manner such as simply sending a text. It is important to improve our writing skills to organize our thoughts to communicate and express ourselves better.
Many times, we have the understanding of a particular thing but when we are asked to explain it we stumble. Writing allows the writer to use his thinking skills to express his thought process coherently and logically for the reader to acquire an understanding of the information. Developing your writing skills can improve the clarity of your thinking on particular topics or issues, which could be useful when it comes to teaching the topic to others and to improve your general understanding of that topic.
In writing, the delivery of the information is important to avoid misunderstanding and confusion when articulating your points, this requires the correct usage of word choice and grammar. In addition, linking the different points and ideas requires the organization of sentence structure. As writing, can provide clarity of thinking and improvement in communication, these are the few reasons why I have started to write.
Critical Thinking
When deciding to make a judgement or comment on an issue, the acquisition of knowledge that is relevant, reliable and useful is important to consider. In addition, it is critical to evaluate the different views and analyse why those certain opinions were taken. The strengthening of this skill can be useful for problem-solving, thinking out of the box and making decisions.
In writing, if I have a keen interest in commenting on an issue, there is background reading required which involves considering components stated above such as sources used, observing different perspectives and not being biased. The information that I have acquired can be solidified and strengthened by writing it, which requires structuring the information in a logical and comprehensible manner.
To Improve Vocabulary
Improving your vocabulary can allow you to articulate yourself better in your writing. Acquiring new words can provide the ability to reconstruct your sentences in a manner that you may not have considered before.
By reading something new, you will encounter many new concepts and words you have never seen before. Using those terminologies you have encountered and using them in your writing can strengthen your understanding of the concept by using it in the correct context which will be beneficial in your writing and understanding.
Active Engagement In Learning
Coming across different pieces of information, concepts, ideas or interests that we acquire either from the news, podcasts, videos or posts. Having the initiative to actively engage in that topic by branching from areas that you have read about, can allow you to be more actively involved with the content rather than being passively engaged with it. This can involve asking yourself questions when reading it and following that up with more research. It can also involve looking up components you didn't understand and comparing and contrasting different ideas.
As writing can also provide other positive aspects including developing a new writing style, improving creativity and reflection. Writing has a lot to offer and is not difficult to do but consistency can be a means of developing invaluable skills.
