Why We Need To Work On Ourselves?
In T.S. Eliot’s famous quote, “We must not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we began and to know the place for the first time,” captures a thought-provoking point about self-discovery.
It highlights the notion that our viewpoints on how we handled a specific situation in the past can be looked at a different light.
We might have replayed out particular scenarios in our mind with only one strategy dealing with it.
However, a shift in perspective or a paradigm shift can allow us to look at the same situation as if we are looking at it the first time.
Having this fresh insights, understanding, or a broader perspective can reshape how we see things ultimately making a call of action to a scenario different.
Consider a scenario where you performed poorly on an exam.
You blame external factors such as ineffective teaching or a noisy environment responsible for your failure to perform well.
Directing the blame on others, can resort to the issues and problem relying on other and not yourself.
Having this one dimension perspective, can veil the true reality of the situation.
By coming to a realization that you were responsible for doing poorly in the exam due to your lack of revision, procrastination and laziness.
You can begin the first steps to resolve the situation.
Acknowledging our role in the situation allows us to address the underlying problem.
This shows how we perceive something and can greatly impact our actions.
Approaching each experience with fresh eyes, as if encountering it for the first time, enables us to appreciate its deeper significance, extract valuable lessons, gain inspiration, and develop a shifted mindset.
Embracing the idea that we don’t have all the answers is crucial for personal development and growth.
Adopting a student mindset, always open to learning and improvement, propels us forward.
When we watch Motivational videos, quotes, proverbs, and books often offer a sense of inspiration to provide another look or an approach to life.
They can provide that transformative moment where everything clicks into place.
This signifies a moment of clarity, understanding, or realization, where various elements harmoniously come together.
It’s akin to viewing an optical illusion picture, where once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

To increase the likelihood of achieving such moments, we must be willing to:
- Be willing to explore new ideas, perspectives, and possibilities
- Having the eagerness to learn can inspire thinking to change your perspective which expands your horizon.
- use different outlets like books, articles, podcasts, and conversations that explore areas that you were ignored because of a preconceived idea.
- Step outside your comfort zone: Be willing to venture beyond familiar territory.
2. More self-reflective
- Take time out to reflect on your life whether that be through a journal or spending time with your thoughts.
- Analyze your own experiences and actions, and assess whether there were alternative approaches you could have dealt with the situation.
Becoming the best version of ourselves does involve being reflective as it analyses aspects of our thinking.
So, why not give it a try on this journey of exploration, knowing that it will lead us back to where we started, but with a newfound understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
