Times is flowing no matter what we are feeling, our struggles, our success and our failures. The sun rises every day and sets no matter what kind of weather it is, the time of day, season or time of year.

To recognize that life continuously goes on and to keep yourself going no matter the situation by being adaptable and consistent in your routine is important.

Routine is the building block to developing skills and achieving mastering that. However many of us become lazy and procrastinate or do not maintain the standard that we expect of ourselves.

Identifying one of the reasons why we don’t do what we want to do is that we don’t value the currency of time.

Currency of time

It can be easy to fall into the trap that you will live for a long period of time. However, life is extremely short and reflection through this constantly provides us reminders to ensure that we take advantage of that time.

Being Reminded of death consistently is vital to realize the currency of time and one way is through a Memento mori. Having something that can provide you with a constant reminder — such as an hourglass.

If you knew you were going to die within a year or two would you change the trajectory of your life by changing your actions. Of course, you would. You would want to leave the world a better place from what you left it in and build a legacy, a memory or an impact.

But why does it take us to reach death before you we appreciate the value of time

It is therefore extremely important to reflect on the value of time and take action on the time.

Having a structure

Able to allocate your time specifically to particular activities whether that is reading a book in the morning, exercising in the evening or learning a new skill daily.

Without structure, you are heedlessly trying to figure out what to do with that time which would involve procrastination, delaying your daily habits because you haven’t built a structure or just getting stressed out because you are doing nothing with your time.

Acting now

Recognizing the importance of structure and time, one more thing that is important is acting NOW.

Many of us don’t achieve a particular goal because we are a bit anxious, lack confidence and doubt our ability to succeed. However putting yourself in uncomfortable situations such as public speaking or saying hello to a random person in the shop can be crucial in developing our character, skills and traits.

In addition, we may naturally call ourselves perfectionists waiting for that perfect moment before doing something. However, there is never a perfect time or moment except now.

Delaying this action will lead to inaction and inactivity. A missed opportunity that we may regret. However, we must take steps to make the best version of ourselves.
