The historical events of societies pursuing knowledge to contribute to various fields that have had a lasting impact on human civilization and continue to be relevant are learning opportunities for us all.

The discoveries in the past that are used in our current day include Algebra, Geometry, medical treatments or Astronomy.

Learning from the Islamic Golden Age, The Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution among others, are some parts of human history that show the profound significance of seeking knowledge.

For it to cultivate intellectual curiosity, benefit society, understand the world and our purpose inspire us to learn.

However, the current climate we are living in that is technology-driven should give us NO excuses to not learn, with technology at our fingertips.

Yet, we procrastinate, waste time and do not take advantage of the resources available to us. Instead, we get too comfortable with the leisures we have.

The transition from being someone who spends their time watching low-valued entertainment content compared to someone who is investing in themselves, you will begin to become the best version of yourself.

Knowledge can inform us:

  1. Information that can protect us from falling into mistakes

Imagine you had a theory examination for your driving test and decided to cheat.

The lack of information to drive a car safely and not abiding by the driving rules can result in harm to yourself and others.

Ultimately, knowledge can protect us from falling into harm and doing the correct actions.

2. Becoming conscious of misunderstanding, misconceptions, fear-mongering tactics and myths.

The nature of technology has enabled the dispersion of information that has never been seen in the past.

Despite, the capacity to share information, we are vulnerable to grabbing onto false information.

Just like common myths we can hear from conversations including the likes of chewing gum remains in the stomach for years if you swallow it or cracking your knuckles causes arthritis.

When you hear something, make sure to search it up and verify it before taking it as truth.

The consequence of taking it as truth and sharing it without verifying can cause problems to others.

3. The seeking of knowledge should make us appreciate that which we don’t know and become more open-minded.

When we begin to learn knowledge we didn’t know previously. We can begin to appreciate the misunderstanding of particular concepts you were previously misinformed about and make you appreciate how little we truly know.

The understanding of information and learning of it doesn’t just stop them. It requires actions.

Knowing without action is no different from the internet. By knowing information without the application, it is meaningless.

A quote by Al-Ghazali can illustrate this:

“Knowledge without action is wastefulness and action without knowledge is foolishness.”

In the current rise of AI, due to innovation and technology changing the way we live. Taking the opportunity to adapt by learning new information and acting upon it can keep us ahead of the curve.

All it takes is one step, so why not start now?
