Globally in 2019, the average life expectancy was 73.4 years stated by WHO.

If you were to tell this detail to a 10-year-old, how would they react? Would they change their action and behaviour?

Their attitude might be one that lacks immediate concern as they may feel that they have got a long life ahead of them and don’t need to worry at the moment.

Alternatively, If you would tell this to an individual who is 70 years old, how would they react?

Some of them might overlook this as they don’t expect to die in the next three years but may realize that their remaining time is limited.

In addition to that, they may feel a sense of regret for not living life to the fullest or making the most of their time.

The purpose of describing these situations is to highlight the lack of urgency.

Making excuses for yourself to allow you to continue with actions you know are bad but you delude yourself and delay the action by saying, “I’ll change tomorrow”.

Having the certainty that we will live later in the day is something that is not guaranteed.

We deceive ourselves with the idea that we will be exempt from the fate of those who came before us, who are underground.

However, that is far from the truth, death is inevitable so we must prepare ourselves and take advantage of our time.

Don’t let a calamity, an incident or a difficult situation become the reason you start to take responsibility for your time.

Therefore, how do we have urgency and hasten towards making a change?

One method is by creating an artificial deadline.

It is a deadline that we give to ourselves to give ourselves to create a sense of urgency and focus towards a task.

For example, if you have an essay due in three months, you might initially feel like there’s plenty of time and procrastinate

However when it comes to 1–2 weeks till the deadline then you suddenly feel the urgency to start working.

With a long deadline, we can become very relaxed and complacent leading to inaction, which leads to procrastination.

Taking action now by creating artificial deadlines which can allow you to spend your time wisely and not put it to waste.

If you found this beneficial, why not give a clap and share your thoughts
