One Method Worth Exploring For Accountability

Don’t do an action that your future-self will regret.

We have to hold ourselves accountable because If we don’t, then who will?

The word “accountability” is primarily derived from the Latin word “accomptare” meaning “to account” or “to record

It can be considered as documenting our actions and taking responsibility for them.

Imagine you were presented with 2 options:

  1. Sit and watch a Tv-show
  2. Read a book to gain knowledge

What would you choose?

Now consider this: if you were to show this response to your future self, would you be happy or regret it?

Often, we find ourselves in a battle between two choices — one that we need to do and one that we want to do

But if we consistently give in to our desires, we can become victims of our actions.

Responsible for that unsettling feeling:

regret.

We may spend hours watching YouTube videos, scrolling through social media, or procrastinating.

Deep down, we feel guilty, yet we continue to engage in these mindless actions day in and day out.

However, these actions do not align with the trajectory we want to set for ourselves.

It’s important to identify the main problem responsible for your temptation to manifest into action.

Finding the problem can allow you to make the appropriate steps to progress and live to your potential.

Ultimately, Reflection plays a vital role in this process.

Reflection can allow you to redirect your intention, energy, action and behaviour towards the activity that brings your close towards your objective.

One useful method is by:

Having a list of what you do every hour.

By comparing your actual actions to what you expected to achieve, you’ll gain valuable insights. Ask yourself why you didn’t achieve what you had planned.

Why did I not achieve what I expected

Or did I achieve what I expected and could I do slightly more?

Were there moments when you wasted time on an activity that could have been used more productively?

The actions that we do on a day-to-day basis can be enhanced and refined to make us the best version possible.

But all that requires is a few minutes to spend reflecting.

You don’t want to fall into the trap of repeating the same actions over and over without seeking even the smallest improvements.

Striving for continuous growth and improvement is what allows us to reach our highest potential.

That’s all for me today but remember to hold yourself accountable and start practising self-reflection to change habits and replicate the behaviours that will shape your trajectory towards becoming the person you aspire to be.
