One Important Concept To Understand Before Learning
Imagine I began to explain to you, the importance of compounding habits:
“The accumulations of actions whether small or big conducted regularly over a large period of time can have a profound impact on your development”
You might be thinking, I already know this and heard this before therefore I don’t need to listen to it.
In some way, you are putting earplugs on, ignoring the information and waiting for new information to be taught before listening.
However, this is a determinant approach to your learning.
There is always something to learn from, even from the smallest of things.
Even when you think, you know a topic well. Listening attentively permits you to identify areas where you may be weak or confused about a concept.
This identification of these gaps can encourage you to take the initiative to clarify any incomplete understanding, misconceptions or confusion.
Through your research, you can build upon your prior knowledge and come across information you weren’t aware of.
Therefore realizing there is more to learn than you think, you shouldn’t look past even the most basic from learning or conversations.
As you may have caught on, the Important Concept To Understand Before Learning is being open-minded before learning.
There is a plethora of reasons to be opened-minded before learning, just to mention a few more:
- Being able to listen to that information again despite begin familiar with it can strengthen your existing knowledge. It’s like meeting someone new for the first time, they tell you their name but in a future interaction you may forget.
Therefore regularly begin reminded and informed can strengthen that ability to recall information quicker.
2. Understanding different perspectives and insights from others on the same topic can provide unique viewpoints that can broaden your horizon.
It is like that optical illusion like Rubin’s vase. You might only see 1 picture and by being told of another perspective of that image you can shift your frame of thinking.
3. Provides a learning opportunity to understand how other people can use different strategies to communicate ideas for people to understand. Taking this into your practice can improve your teaching ability.
Alongside the plethora of benefits of keeping an open mind, taking the mindset of a student is extremely important to foster a growth mindset to continually expand your knowledge and skills.
So, whenever you come across something that you have learned before, try to focus and look at it with a fresh mind to extract something new.
Every interaction, Every Mistake, Every Success, Every Action and the list goes on can provide something to learn. Don’t become someone who stops learning.
Always learn and apply those necessary changes to become the best version of yourself.
